Microwave assisted extraction of bioactive saponins from the starfish Echinaster sepositus: Optimization by response surface methodology and comparison with ultrasound and conventional solvent extraction

Microwave assisted extraction (MAE) was investigated for the of total saponins compounds from starfish Echinaster sepositus. In order to achieve optimization microwave and determine influence each operational variable (the solvent concentration (X1), irradiation time (X2), power (X3), liquid-solid ratio (X4)) on saponins, response surface methodology (RSM) coupled with a Box–Behnken design (BBD) applied. The optimized experimental conditions were 58.7 % aqueous methanol as solvent, 177 W 3 min at 43.6 mL g−1 ratio. yield under these 60.3 ± 0.6 mg g−1. MAE compared other methods, ultrasound (UAE) conventional (CSE). It demonstrated that produced 7.8 times more by CSE 3.3 UAE has produced. From in vitro hemolytic tests electro-generated O2− quenching tests, we have noted extract most active one comparing both extracts.
